Medium Vase #3
This short, fat bottle vase is classic in both shape and proportion. Minimalist in style, its white Mussel Shoals glaze is a bit more subtly flecked with the translucent spots left by the ground mussel shells than many pieces (the amount of shells caught by each piece in the glazing process is quite random). These patches contrast with the black flecks in the clay body, giving the piece a ‘salt and pepper’ feel. Suitable as a decoration on its own or with a small bunch of short stemmed flowers, this piece would lift the mood of any shelf or dining table.
It’s glazed in Mussel Shoals, a beautiful semi-gloss white glaze with cream/translucent flecks. These flecks are what gives the glaze it’s name as they are made by incorporating locally collect mussel shells, ground up and mixed into the glaze formula that I developed from scratch. I know it sounds silly, but the glaze has a very textural ‘softness’ to it which I just adore and I hope you do too.
