This latest batch of pieces is all about variations on a form. To be 100% honest, some of it is down to me not being able to perfectly replicate a piece, and that’s what this throwing session was about. But in the end, I was quite pleased and surprised at how much just a little variation in the shape can give such a different character to the piece – so I decided to embrace the differences.
This pieces’ main body is a bit more spherical than some of the others, and the proportions suit the form well.
The piece is glazed in Blue Mist, one of my favourite glazes! In the extreme heat of the kiln, this glaze flows as it melts, creating streaks, rivulets and flow lines. Where it flows away, leaving only a thin layer it becomes transparent. Where it’s thick, it’s a stunning baby blue with a mottling and occasional dark blue streaks in the colour that really draws you in. Where one layer flows over another it leaves a gorgeous tan tide line. Can you tell it’s one of my favourites?!?!
